The Israeli army outposts on Mount Hermon, the highest peak in the country, are of critical strategic importance, especially these days, as a number of hostile threats converge here from different directions. The mountain, which sits at the northeastern tip of the country, has a history of military conflict.
I served in a civilian unit in support of the IDF during the 1973 Yom Kippur outbreak, having returned to Israel on said outbreak aboard the first ElAl flight from Johannesburg via London. We drove water trucks to our troops along the Golan Heights and up to Quneitra. My youngest daughter and 2 granddaughters made Aliya this year residing in Haifa. At my age of 70 I will be on the first plane back to Eretz to defend our people and again in support to our very brave members in the IDF. George Marnewick, former member of the Israel Diplomatic staff in Pretoria, South Africa. ( next year in Jerusalem ).
